Every year the “Marimbeiros of Zavala” hold their Festival. This group of men is very well known not only in Mozambique but also in other parts of Africa for playing the “timbila” (which is also the name of a dance) and the “marimba chope”, a type of xylophone made from a special wood found only in Inhambane. Another of their talents is reciting spontaneous verse.
Anualmente, há um festival dos marimbeiros de Zavala, onde há exímios tocadores de timbila e poetas de ocasião, que são bem conhecidos e apreciados em Moçambique e noutros países africanos.
The Chopi Music Festival is held yearly between July and August at Quissico village in the province of Inhambane. The main objectives of this artistic event are the promotion of regional tourism as well as the preservation of Chope traditional music and timbila playing.
The event is organized by Nambu Productions/AMMISAVA.
The Tofo Festival has no fixed calendar, is held at Tofo beach in Inhambane. It is similar in nature to the Wimbi Festival and is sponsored by MITUR/MEC as well.
