DNAC – Directorate for Areas of Conservation

Functions:

  1. To submit proposals of development strategies for eco-tourism and safari activities.
  2. To issue operating licences and certify safari operators and to establish the norms for the sanctioning of such operators.
  3. To appraise proposed projects in the area of safari operations concerning their location and nature.
  4. To monitor the conservation areas under the management of the Ministry of Tourism, as well as the activities of the safari operators.
  5. To coordinate all activities related to the exploitation of resources in the conservation areas.
  6. To promote all undertakings leading to the improvement of quality and competitiveness in the eco-tourism sector.
  7. To formulate proposals for the conservation areas.
  8. To approve the management and route planning in the conservation areas and ensure that these are followed.
  9. To advise on packages that includes safari tourism.
  10. To keep updated the inventory and records of the fauna and forestry resources in the conservation areas.
  11. To collaborate with the relevant entities in the promotion of the natural resources conservation policy.
