- Flood plains dependent on the hydrological systems of Gorongosa mountain and the Cheringoma plateau;
- Rich plains yielding the biomas required by large herds of ungulates.
Fauna
The Gorongosa National Park used to have the greatest number of bio diverse wildlife
(buffalo, elephant, wildebeest, hippo, zebra, waterbuck) per km2 of any park in Africa, and its main camp at Chitengo was visited by some 19.000 tourists in 1973.

- Trained guides that lead tours over more than 100 km of wild trails;
- bird watching (great diversity of species);
- walking trails on Gorongosa mountain;
