History
Nowadays, the provincial capital is the most important industrial, commercial and administrative centre in the Beira-Zimbabwe corridor and its economy on a number of processing industries such as tobacco, citric and cereal etc.
It has a population of 172.000 inhabitants and an estimated area of 174 km2 organised in 33 suburbs. In town one can appreciate several interesting historical buildings such as the Provincial PublicLibrary or the House 1920 that was the old Vila Pery hotel. Other visits of interest are the mural at the Heroes Square, monument commemorating National Independence, and the local Mosque.
The city of Manica is situated in a region of gold fields and since early times visited by foreigners seeking gold. Nowadays is still an agricultural and tourist area. The settlement was founded in 1894 and today covers an area 113 km2 that encompasses 8 suburbs and an estimated population of 42.430 inhabitants.
