VIII International Festival of Maputo announce the next edition of the Festival a 4 May 11, 2012
Over the past seven years we have seen young Mozambicans to get involved and enthused in music they had never heard before. Our "International Music Festival", gave them a first contact with the beauty of opera, classical music and symphonic music, bringing together talented young musicians, from different parts of the world to participate in this annual event.
From 2005 to 2011, the festival of our growth has been phenomenal. Due to the high standard of performances, it was possible to create a Festival (which appear to be a specific experience and only) annual musical event in a solid, well organized and diverse. We managed to captivate audiences of all sectors of society, young and old, rich and poor, without losing sight of our main objective, to educate a new audience in the best aspect of classical music. As part of our strategy, we introduce the acoustic jazz, the "world music" and the classic opera to our program, thus attracting a wider audience, without neglecting the importance of traditional classics. We believe that this cultural exchange created an opportunity for young Mozambicans to enrich their knowledge and improve the chances of realizing their dreams.
Following the successes of the past, we are pleased to introduce two new programs: an evening of classical ballet with two principal dancers from National Ballet of Portugal, Carlos Pinillos and Filipa Castro and extracts from the Broadway production of West Side Story, a original and unique African context. For this show, we will gladly receive the support of the award winning choreographer and teacher Greg Ganakas, who directed and collaborated enthusiastically with singers and Mozambican students in the production of Porgy and Bess in 2010.
This year will include a concert "Mostly MADE IN MOZAMBIQUE", to be directed by four Mozambican musicians; Matarula Kika (Oboe), Moreira Chonguiça (Saxophone), Feliciano Castro (Choir Master) and Luka Makhavele (traditional instruments). They will work together with the musicians invited to the Festival. It will be an original band, which plans to submit several surprises.
