Geography
Mozambique covers an area of over 800,000 square kilometers, three times the size of Great Britain.
Located in the southeastern region of African continent, it shares borders with six other countries, Tanzania, Zambia and Malawi to the north, Zimbabwe to the west, Swaziland and South Africa to the south. With a long coastline of 2,500 km, has numerous and superb beaches surrounded by lagoons, coral reefs and strings of small islands.
The vast low plateau rising from the meadows coast towards the mountains in the north and west covers nearly half the country's land area. The population is concentrated along the coast and fertile valleys of rivers. The Zambezi is the largest of the 25 county rivers. Mozambique is rich in mineral resources like gold, emeralds, copper, iron and bauxite and is currently involved in oil exploration.
Mozambique is divided into 10 provinces, namely: Maputo (capital of Mozambique), Gaza, Inhambane, Sofala, Manica, Zambezia, Nampula, Tete, Niassa and Cabo Delgado, and their respective cities, Maputo and the first largest city, Xai-Xai , Inhambane, Beira, Chimoio, Qelimane, Nampula, Tete, Pemba and Lichinga, Matola city is the second largest city in Maputo province.
