  1. To guide, organize and support the development of tourism, the hotel industry and other areas of a similar nature;
  2. To formulate policies and strategies for the development of tourism;
  3. To define the hotel typology for each zone in conformity with the characteristics and requirements of the particular environment and promote the construction and proper management of such establishments;
  4. To propose measures to continuously improve the quality of the services offered, increase competitiveness and conformity to international tourism standards;
  5. To propose the revision and updating of existing legislation for the sector;
  6. To analyse and submit for approval projects and proposals referring to tourist facility units and to supervise the construction and rehabilitation work thereof;
  7. To issue operating licences for the tourism and hotel industry as well as to approve and sanction the respective tariffs;
  8. To certify the managers of establishments in the sector in conformity with the regulations;
  9. To approve travel arrangements and packages for tourists and enforce compliance thereto;
  10. To update the inventory and records of the offered tourist activities and services;
  11. To collaborate with the relevant agents on the survey of tourist assets required for the elaboration of national travel maps;
  12. To promote the creation of local tourism committees.
